Quoting eloquently from the teachings of Pope John Paul II, Cavins relates that without love man is incomprehensible to himself; life is senseless. Following the example of Jesus, we discover ourselves only by giving ourselves totally to others. Faith gives our lives meaning by anchoring them in the truth God has revealed in the person of His Son, and hope is the trust that our future good will be achieved simply because of God’s promises. Cavins points out the great difference between the worldly use of the word “hope” and the way it is used in the Bible. In Scripture, there is a certainty to hope – a confidence that what God has promised will be fulfilled.
